Legal Background
Amy E. Richards is an experienced attorney concentrating in family law who, after graduating from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, worked as an associate for a sole practitioner handling domestic relations and real estate cases.
As an associate, the majority of her caseload was contested divorce and paternity cases. She appeared in court regularly and handled all aspects of the cases, including temporary hearings, pre-trial conferences in chambers, settlement conferences, depositions, and the entry of QDROs and Judgments for Dissolution of Marriage. The family law cases included custody and visitation disputes, child support and maintenance issues, Orders of Protection, removal, property disputes, division of marital and non-marital assets and debts, and other legal issues handled by the Domestic Relations division of the Circuit Court and the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services.
After representing minors in child protection and delinquency cases at the Loyola Civitas ChildLaw Clinic, Amy knew she wanted to focus her career on family law. She was the associate editor of the Children’s Legal Rights Journal.
While attending law school Amy also clerked at a high profile law firm handling complex civil and criminal litigation. Having access to frequent discussions in chambers and given evidentiary responsibilities in many cases, Amy learned firsthand the art of preparing and presenting cases.
She is admitted to practice law in the state of Illinois and the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois.
